Alcyen Silva, DVM

Dr. Alcyen Silva, Medical Director

Dr. Alcyen Silva graduated from Ross University in 2016.  Following graduation she completed a rigorous one-year rotating internship in Equine Medicine and Surgery before joining East County Large Animal Practice in San Diego. Over the last four years Dr. Silva worked in general practice and soon discovered her unexpected passion for the fast-paced and unpredictable nature of emergency medicine and surgery.  She completed a six-month fellowship in Emergency Medicine in 2020.  Dr. Silva has participated in extensive continuing education, including a week-long abdominal surgery, endoscopy, and ultrasound course through the Translational Medicine Institute at Colorado State University. Additionally, she completed an abdominal surgery course through Improve International under the guidance of Dr. Eric Monnet DVM, Ph, DACVS, DipECVS.  Her clinical interests include imaging, emergency surgery, and ophthalmology but most importantly she loves forming trusting and supportive relationships with owners in order to make the best treatment plans for their animals.

Freddie’s Place is a welcome next step in Dr. Silva’s career, combining the balance of Emergency/Urgent Care with the familiarity and comfort that comes with being a “family” vet.

During her off time, Dr. Silva continues to enjoy the company of horses, and owns a quarter horse named Demi.  Her husband is a San Diego native and Bering Sea fisherman; while he is home, they enjoy sport fishing, trips to the desert, and spending time with friends and family.  They welcomed their first baby in 2022 and have two border collies—“Dexter” and “Duner” plus two chickens—”The Abominable SnowHen” and “Penny”.
