It is our pleasure to introduce to you April’s patient of the month, Pepper!
Pepper’s Emergency Visit
Pepper was playing outside when, out of nowhere, her owners noticed she had developed sudden facial swelling. Concerned, they immediately brought her to Freddie’s Place Animal Hospital & Urgent Care, where she was triaged by one of our technicians. Once Pepper was brought to the back, she was examined by our wonderful Dr. Dixon.
Diagnosis and Treatment
After a thorough examination, Dr. Dixon identified what appeared to be a small puncture wound on Pepper’s right eyelid. Given Pepper’s history of being outside, the facial swelling, and the time of year, there was reason to suspect a rattlesnake bite as the cause. With the owners’ approval, we proceeded to run bloodwork, which confirmed our suspicions.
We immediately began administering antivenom and provided Pepper with effective pain medication. She was kept overnight for observation and monitoring. Throughout her stay, Pepper was exceptionally sweet, ate well, felt comfortable, and showed steady improvement.
Recovery and Return Home
Thanks to her progress, Pepper was able to return home to her family the very next day
Back to Her Adventures
Pepper is now back to digging holes in the backyard, playing fetch, and enjoying hikes with her owner!
