Everyone meet FPAH’s patient of the month “Buster” Brown!
Buster is a 5 year old Chihuahua who came in as an emergency after being bitten by a much larger dog. Upon examination there were two penetrating chest wounds, but it wasn’t until radiographs were done that we learned the full extent of the attack. The imaging findings revealed a traumatic rib fracture accompanied by pneumothorax (a collapsed lung.) That same night, Doctor Gomez performed a laceration repair for the two penetrating wounds that were found, but treatment for the pneumothorax was a little different. For the pneumothorax, air was removed from the chest cavity and the healing was up to Buster. Buster stayed hospitalized for 2 days and was being monitored around the clock for any changes or worsening signs. He was being treated with IV pain medications, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories and was then switched over to oral medications when he got the green flag to go home. Buster’s family is taking great care of him, and he is recovering wonderfully! He’ll be back to playing with his human siblings in no time!
