Ryan Bear, DVM

Having grown up in a rural farming community in central Missouri, Dr. Ryan Bear developed an early appreciation for animals. Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Bear spent eight years in the U.S. Navy. As a Naval helicopter pilot, he completed two six-month deployments onboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz to include a combat detachment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. Grateful to now have the opportunity to return to his earlier interests, Dr. Bear graduated from veterinary school at Mississippi State University in 2014 and worked in mixed animal practice for nine years before becoming a member of Freddie’s team.

Joining Freddie’s team, Dr. Bear is excited to continue his dedication to serving others and their pets by providing convenient emergency and urgent pet care in a family atmosphere. His primary areas of medical interest include small animal internal medicine, surgeries of all kinds, and emergency medicine.

Outside of work Dr. Bear enjoys surfing and snow skiing. His loving wife is a neurodiagnostic technician at UCSD and his son is an energetic surfing grom. His house is full of loving misfits with a lazy orange tabby cat called Grover, a rescue Pitter-Collie named June, a Corgi with a heart defect named Dori, and a crazy green cheeked conure parrot named Carl.
