Freddie’s Place Animal Hospital and Urgent Care would like to give July’s patient spotlight to OREO!!

Luckily, Oreo’s parents brought him into Freddies for evaluation following this scary event. Oreo presented with lethargy, vomiting, and anorexia, leading Dr. Gomez to recommend radiographs. Radiographs showed that there was a foreign body located within the small intestine. Due to Oreo’s azotemia, it was recommended that Oreo be hospitalized for 12 hours (on IV Fluids) prior to foreign body removal surgery, making him a better anesthesia candidate. Dr. Gomez let Oreo’s owners know that waiting did pose some risk. Dr. Gomez gave Oreo’s parents this option to accommodate their needs as a family and to provide a positive outcome for Oreo. They decided to move forward with hospitalization and surgery which would be performed by the wonderful Dr. Bear, who was assisting in Oreo’s case. After providing 12-hour hospitalization including IV Fluids, repeating radiographs and lab work, an exploratory foreign body removal surgery was performed on Oreo. After much anticipation, the foreign body was successfully removed without complications – since it went so well, we were also able to neuter Oreo at this time.
After a few days of post operative hospitalization (including extra hugs and snuggles from our amazing technicians), Oreo’s lab results and vitals were stable enough to send him home. With the help of Oreo’s proactive owners and our skilled doctors and staff, Oreo has made a full recovery. He is now back to doing what kittens do best, playing and cat napping!
