Freddie’s Place Animal Hospital and Urgent Care would like to give May’s patient spotlight to GABBY! . . .

While seated in her own front yard, Gabby was unexpectedly attacked by a large coyote. Her parents acted swiftly, bringing her to our hospital and thanks to the rapid response of our doctors and nurses, our team was able to promptly stabilize her and assess the full extent of her traumatic injuries. Unfortunately, the force of the bite had resulted in a fractured lower jaw. With the extent of Gabby’s injury, it was decided that in order for Gabby’s injury to properly heal, she would need to have her jaw wired shut. Having never done this procedure before, Dr. Gomez was extremely honest and transparent to the owners, and both parties decided to take the risk. Thanks to our brilliant Dr. Gomez and our team of wonderful technicians, Gabby underwent an invasive, but successful surgery. As soon as she woke up, she did not hesitate to make it known that she was feeling better and ready once again for her beloved belly rubs. Due to her jaw being wired shut, a feeding tube was also placed since she would not be able to eat or drink on her own. With Gabby needing around the clock care, everyone decided that it would be best if Gabby stayed here at the hospital for medical boarding with us for a few weeks. In that time, we all got to know and love Gabby for the sweet and silly girl she is. Her time here has shown us that some of her favorite things include bird watching, and demanding belly rubs and chin scratches. While she still needed intense care, the time finally came when Gabby was able to go home. Her owners took the initiative and had training sessions with our technicians on how to properly care for her at home, and what to look out for. Gabby still has a long road to recovery ahead of her, but that has not slowed her down one bit. She is back to doing what she loves and is not letting the birds out of her sight! All of us here are counting down the days and cannot wait to see Gabby’s progress!
