We here at Freddie’s Place Animal Hospital and Urgent Care would like to introduce you to April’s patient of the Month. . . “Pippin” Rieger! Pippin presented to our hospital after being bitten by a dog on her front left arm. The severity of the bite was enough to expose the cephalic vein, but luckily it was harrowingly missed. A laceration repair was performed that night and Pippin was sent home with medications. Unfortunately, no matter the severity of an animal bite, there is always a chance of failure repair due to a high possibility of infection. Pippin was back in our hospital 2 days later when her wound had become infected and had completely opened. Pippin was incredibly brave and allowed us to flush out and bandage her wound every 2 days for almost a week. Unfortunately, due to the severity and anatomical location of the wound, we ultimately made the decision to refer Pippin out to a SurgiPet, a hospital that specializes in surgery and anesthesia for our beloved pets. With the collaboration of both hospitals and the owners, Pippin is back at home and on the road to a full recovery and acting more and more like herself every day!
